I know a few veterans in their 80's and they definitely can speak for themselves. In fact they do not like it when someone or some organization thinks they are speaking for them. They have a lot to say if people will listen to them. In fact all people in this country should spend more time listening to people from that generation. They have lived through so much and could teach the rest of us a lot. As far as the stars of the show, who cares what they have to say on this incident. They were not directly involved in the altercations that took place. In fact I doubt the director ever told them the veterans wanted to meet them. To me CBS is full of complete jerks and has been for decades. As for the Greatest Generations Foundation, well their cause is absolutely fantastic but I am sorry to say the staff is also full of arrogant, conceited jerks as well.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2115634139771083771.post-90646801268775456212011-12-16T19:09:42.965-08:002011-12-16T19:09:42.965-08:00Go to the foundations web site and read the Vets r...Go to the foundations web site and read the Vets report on the day in question. He does not mention a single word about this incident. Furthermore he seems to have had a great day by his account. I do think the majority of the veterans there that day did not even see any problems. In fact most had a great day until the members of the foundation told them while on the bus. Read Steffan Tubbs blog, he says he told them on the bus what had happened. This really sounds like the members of the foundation had a more of a problem with CBS than the Vets did. But of course it still does not excuse CBS for their actions.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2115634139771083771.post-8072722849717777882011-12-15T09:00:08.144-08:002011-12-15T09:00:08.144-08:00Because the foundation is speaking for the vets. I would not have posted anything in here except after hearing Clear Channel just continue to harp on this, not just on KOA but on several of their stations I had had enough. I really think no matter even if CBS made a sincere apology, Clear Channel and The Greatest Generations Foundation will keep trying to keep this going as they love the free publicity.Kentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2115634139771083771.post-53826958652477464012011-12-14T22:10:59.341-08:002011-12-14T22:10:59.341-08:00Sorry, I was not attempting to put words in your m...Sorry, I was not attempting to put words in your mouth. I also want to thank you for your service. And yes CBS was wrong but no matter what anyone says, Mr. Tubbs actions were wrong as well. As far as that goes, whoever allowed both CBS and the Greatest Generations Foundation to book the area on the same day was ultimately at fault. After all a memorial and a TV production are always going to clash. And being that it was so close to December 7th the Veterans should have been given priority over a dumb TV show. But that being said, a little communication between the two at the start would have probably rectified the situation before it got so far out of hand. Oh well it is all water under the bridge now. What would be best for all concerned is for CBS to make a sincere apology to the Veterans and leave it at that. I know Mr. Tubbs is not going to apologize, I just would like to hear him say he truly regretted his behavior that day.Kentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2115634139771083771.post-16082497520274290892011-12-14T21:46:42.034-08:002011-12-14T21:46:42.034-08:00Kent, my oldest of five children was also born in ...Kent, my oldest of five children was also born in Hawaii, but he doesn't attempt to put words in my mouth. I had the utmost respect for him until this occurred. I for one think they should keep all film crews from ever being allowed at the Punchbowl. But the money they pay to do so I guess is needed due to budget cuts and a shortage of state and federal funds. I was born and raised in Hawaii, Halualoa on the Big Island, so I may be living on the mainland now but I am always a Hawaiian. So you think it is OK to cuss out someone who is only doing their job? After all the crew member was told to go and ask Mr. Tubbs to move, he was doing his job he was not in charge. It is Ok to encourage as well as participate in flipping people off? I guess it is OK for Mr. Tubbs to act rude but not OK for CBS to act rude? As far as the CBS crew, they were acting very rude I agree, they are still acting very rude and quite frankly they act as though they do not care. Quite frankly, CBS deserves the bad press they are getting out of this. But know matter what, the actions of Steffan Tubbs that day can not be excused either.Kentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2115634139771083771.post-90031818247573978812011-12-14T21:21:11.914-08:002011-12-14T21:21:11.914-08:00So, I gather by Kent's continued trashing of M...So, I gather by Kent's continued trashing of Mr. Tubbs that he is putting himself in that minority group who agrees CBS was rude to the veterans, but Tubbs is still a bad guy. Take a breath, Kent. The sun will come up tomorrow and the good folks at CBS will do what they will do with little thought to Mr. Tubbs. (You need a blog of your own. I have 10. Why does someone always assume that if you ...Stone. Why does someone always assume that if you disagree with what they agree with then the person must automatically be a troll that works for the oposition? I do not work for CBS and I actually hate the new Hawaii 5-0. In fact I really have no use for any of the media. Just because someone has a problem with Steffan Tubbs and the way he acted does not mean they have a problem with the blog post. I support his right to post and say anything he wants in his blog post. I support his right to post the CBS emails he received. Yes they should have stopped production, if they had known it was a 70th anniversary ceremony. You do not know they had any idea that this was a 70th anniversary memorial. This occured on the 9th, not the 7th. They hold many ceremonies and memorials at the Punchbowel year arround and had it been the 7th, they would never be allowed to film or be there on the 7th period. This was 2 days later. I guess if they had been able to read the Greatest Generation Foundation members minds or Mr. Tubbs mind or the Veterans minds they would have known what was going on and they would have known all that was planned for that day. If someone from the Foundation had bothered when they first arrived to go to the director and crew and discussed the situation and what they had planned maybe and I would guess certainly, The CBS crew would have stopped production for the hour and a half that the Veterans were going to be there. Instead Mr. Tubbs and the rest of the foundation just proceeded to get angry, insult, cuss out, a CBS crew member, and encourage as well as participate in flipping them off. Is it any wonder after he had made them angry that they got very little respect? Is it any wonder that they were dissed by the actors? It by no way excuses CBS for there actions. They owe the Veterans that were there that day an apology. But in my book Mr. Tubbs should be reprimanded by the Director of the Greatest Generations Foundation for his actions that day. At most companies doing what he did while at work, would result in being fired. He should also apologize to all the Veterans for his actions. I also think he owes an apology to the crew member he cussed out as well as to CBS. The only ones I really feel sorry for are the Veterans. They should have had a peaceful and dignified day. But due to the lack of communication on either side things ended up the way they did.Kentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2115634139771083771.post-68515925017678760932011-12-14T21:06:43.258-08:002011-12-14T21:06:43.258-08:00If we can step aside from the finger pointing for ...If we can step aside from the finger pointing for a moment -- the deciding who we shoot, the messenger or the perpetrators -- I would like to say it is regrettable that people probably from the mainland case this negative light on the people of Hawaii. I was there twice, once in 1960-62 on duty with the Marine Corps at Camp H. M. Smith, and again in 2004 when I took my wife there upon returning from a year of duty in Iraq at age 65. The people of Hawaii is traditionally kind, loving, and go out of their way to help visitors. The actions of the CBS crew are not at all reflective of the people of Hawaii. That's why it stands out so starkly as bullyism and disrespect for men who have earned the highest respect. Love the people of Hawaii; CBS, you have work to do.Gyrene242https://www.blogger.com/profile/03201779619495079150noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2115634139771083771.post-26031083670539652892011-12-14T20:53:48.396-08:002011-12-14T20:53:48.396-08:00I feel certain everyone who does not have a person...I feel certain everyone who does not have a personal "hate-on" for Mr. Tubbs realizes he owes no apology to anyone, least of all CBS. These veterans who were exercising what was in all probability their final opportunity to honor their fallen brothers, are all adults of some standing, and they approved of Mr. Tubbs' actions and both visibly and orally disapproved of CBS's rudeness to them. Someone would have to be blinded by personal vendetta not to see that.Gyrene242https://www.blogger.com/profile/03201779619495079150noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2115634139771083771.post-52835976953606884052011-12-14T20:39:58.192-08:002011-12-14T20:39:58.192-08:00Hey Gyrene242. I never said a word that it was the...Hey Gyrene242. I never said a word that it was the fault of the Vets. I support the Vets and said CBS does owe them a sincere apology. My problem is with Steffan Tubbs and the Greatest Generation Foundation and KOA radio. I agree that CBS was out of line but that does not excuse actions the members of the Greatest Generation Foundation took and also does not excuse Steffan Tubbs for acting like he did. There is never and I repeat never a time when it is moral or ethical to cuss out someone period. And there is never a time when flipping someone off is the right thing to do. For his actions Mr. Tubbs owes the Vets an apology and in my book he owes CBS an apology for his actions. My problem with the Greatest Generations Foundation is that they never attempted to try and talk to the CBS crew when they first arrived. CBS paid a lot of money to rent and film that day. They could have packed up and went home but that would result in a loss of that money and they would have had to pay for the rent again to film another day. Plus packing up and leaving would have created way more noise and would have caused more disruption than they did cause. Of course if the Greatest Generation Foundation had bothered to try and work something out with CBS when they first arrived maybe, most likely, the CBS crew could have accommodated them. But instead they just got angry and acted out when things did not go the way they wanted them to. What a surprise, CBS could not read the minds of Mr. Tubbs or those in charge that day and know exactly what they had planned. After Steffan Tubbs cussed out the member of the crew and would not move when they asked him to and would not quit taking photos when the asked him to, why is anyone surprised that the CBS crew was rude back. In fact they were just going about their business until Steffan Tubbs made them angry. Mr. Tubbs was insulting and very immature, you can tell that from the tone of his blog post and from his attitude since then on the radio. Mr. Tubbs was already mad from 2 days earlier when things did not go the way he thought they should. My problem with the rest of the Greatest Generation Foundation is that they have done nothing about Steffan Tubbs behavior that day. If you did the same thing at most companies in this country you would be fired immediately. Cussing and flipping the bird is almost always a grounds for firing. And encouraging others to do the same thing is even more so. He had the right to do so, but he should have showed restraint and as an adult he should certainly know better than that. But to hear him talk about it he says he sort of regrets it. He should completely regret his actions and apologize most sincerely to the Veterans that were were there that day.Kentnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2115634139771083771.post-50011006001410950892011-12-14T10:37:50.450-08:002011-12-14T10:37:50.450-08:00This just goes to show the cast and crew and produ...This just goes to show the cast and crew and producers, CBS thinks Hawaii Five 0 is bigger and more important that anything else. You laughed at the Vets Flipping the Bird at the CBS crew and you mentioned that you got angry at the film crew telling you "repeatedly" to leave the area, but failed to mention as you do in your blog post that you cussed the kid out. You made no attempt when you first arrived to try and come to some arrangement with the CBS crew. Once you had made them upset by taking pictures when told to stop and not leaving the filming area when told repeatedly to do so and then cussing at the crew member, only then did you try and talk to them but all you wanted then was a hat and a visit from the actors. You on the air called the CBS crew member a punk. So lets see, using foul language, flipping the bird, name calling, disrespect for other people. It all sounds like the actions of a teenager. How old are you? I think you should grow up. You owe the Vets an apology for your actions that day. You also owe the CBS crew an apology for your actions that day. Now I will agree that the CBS crew owes the Veterans and apology as well. It was Pearl Harbor day/week.The show had to know there would be events going on in the cemetery. Yet there was no effort to work with the vets that came to remember that tragedy. What most bothered me was when the vets asked if a star could come to their bus and say something to them. They waited just to get a NO. But let the stars face an interviewer and they are right there. This is a sad commentary on the priorities of today's world. I hope none of their children die in some war tragedy. Maybe they would understand then how bad this was.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
